Collection: Julie Malette

Julie Malette is a Kingston, Ontario artist whose practice engages with contemporary abstract landscape painting. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, she explores the expressive potential of colour, form, and gesture to convey the rhythm and vitality of natural environments. Having grown up in an area rich with both ancient and modern Indigenous art, Julie draws influence from artistic traditions that honour the deep connections between people and the land. Inspired by artists such as Emily Carr, she seeks to articulate the enduring resilience of culture and landscape through a modern, abstract lens. Her paintings balance spontaneity and structure, layering vibrant pigments and dynamic brushwork to evoke movement, atmosphere, and emotion. Through this process, Julie’s work invites reflection on continuity, connection, and the living spirit of place.
