Our society is shaped—if not ruled—by the products we consume and the icons we idolize. Drillo is a conceptual company brought to life through paintings, drawings, and sculptures, acting as promotional material for a fictional corporation that infiltrates advertising, consumerism, policing, and politics. Through Drillo, I explore both the power and absurdity of corporate influence, inviting reflection on our willing and unwilling participation in these forces.
A key inspiration is the Marlboro Man campaign, where a carefully curated cowboy persona—stoic and fearless—sold a product that ultimately harmed its consumers. More broadly, this reflects how laborers like ranch hands, despite their harsh realities, have been transformed into symbols of the romantic American identity. By adopting powerful icons and familiar advertising aesthetics, my work critiques the exploitation of idealized identities in mass media.
