Karen Wynne Mackay is a Stittsville-based abstract artist known for her vibrant, textured paintings that pulse with emotion and movement. Drawing on calligraphic traditions, she creates deeply layered surfaces using fluid colour, handmade tools, and mixed media to build compositions that conceal, reveal, and evolve. Inspired by nature, music, and the places she has called home — from Montreal and Hudson to Ottawa’s west end — Karen approaches each painting as a process of discovery. Her work embraces both tension and beauty, allowing intuition to guide the rhythm of mark and colour. Her paintings are collected across Canada and the United States, Chase Art Gallery Montreal Quebec, She is also an Associate/Owner of Galerie Old Chelsea. Karen also teaches workshops in abstract art and expressive mark-making.
